Scott Hufford, CHASSE Director of Operations, was recently featured on Valley Business Radio to discuss Green Building in our Arizona communities. He, along with Joe Cunningham of Sunny Energy, Corey Garrison of Southface Solar & Electric, and Adrian McIntyre who works with innovative, passionate and driven people who make a difference in our communities, discussed the importance of sustainability.
Hufford discussed how CHASSE identifies sustainable opportunities within construction, navigating clients through the process, and educating the team that sustainability can be affordable. Hufford also explained reducing our environmental impact by diverting construction waste from landfills through recycling, salvaging and repurposing existing buildings, and reducing our carbon footprint by using local materials and manufacturers. In addition to environmental impact and conservation, Hufford discussed how sustainable features impact occupants too, providing comfort in the places we live and work all while being environmentally responsible.

CHASSE Building Team is dedicated to the construction of affordable, energy efficient projects. Within the industry, we pride ourselves on being leaders in innovation when it comes to Green and other environmentally friendly solutions, as well as dedicated advocates of green building across Arizona. In fact, our multifamily division has created an industry-wide LEED standard.
We’ve completed over 15+ LEED Certified projects, over half of which are LEED Platinum. Below is a sampling of this experience:
The 3-story structure provides housing for artists qualified as low income with the ground floor containing a gallery for performance and visual arts. The complex is a 50-unit multifamily development consisting of live/work space for artists and their families. Mesa Artspace Lofts was designed to be eco-friendly. In order to achieve LEED for Homes Midrise Platinum certification, the project incorporated various energy efficient systems including LED lighting and low flow water restrictions.
The Patina Wellness Center is a 30,000 SF, 3-story building that provides behavioral health services and counseling to an underserved and distressed population. Amenities on this LEED-NC Silver Project include a full commercial kitchen, fitness center, talking circle for group therapy, 18 ADA Accessible sleeping pods, sweat lodges, basketball court, family visitation area, child play area, arts and crafts programs, onsite job and life skill training, reflecting pond, and numerous programs designed to foster healing and personal growth.
Landmark is a new affordable, independent housing development that serves very low-income seniors 62 years and older. This 52-unit development serves those who are no longer able to live on their own, but too independent for a nursing home. The property features community BBQ’s, an on site dog park, library/media room and fitness center. Landmark is LEED-certified Gold, built with energy efficiency in mind. The building uses less water and energy and produces a reduced amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
