Canyon View High School Receives International Attention

Canyon View High School isn’t your traditional high school, but a high school built with the future in mind. Last month, Canyon View High School opened it’s doors to educators, researchers, policymakers, and architects from around the world for a two-day symposium organized by The Innovative Learning Environments and Teacher Change project which is based at The University of Melbourne Australia. The project aims to investigate how teachers can use the untapped potential of Innovative Learning Environments (ILEs) to improve learning outcomes for students. Canyon View’s design contributes to the ILE’s by creating an adaptive space for students and teachers alike.

The two-day symposium highlighted how teachers use the innovative learning environments, boost student morale through creative spaces and teachings, and how to shape future learning experiences. Through the symposium, attendees were able to experience Canyon View High School first-hand and engage with current students and faculty about the spaces they use everyday.

“Teachers have struggled for many years to be creative and differentiate instruction for students within a traditional classroom with four walls and tables and chairs that don’t move.” The group aims to engage researchers, architects, educators and policy makers in discussions about how to adapt instruction in these spaces to boost students’ learning as well as provide easy access to current research and research-based best practices.

Opening it’s doors in August 2018, Canyon View High School is the newest high school for the Agua Fria Union High School District. This cutting-edge high school will serve as a basis of research while providing a modern classroom setting for its students. Classes have the flexibility to be held in collaborative spaces around campus in a culture that is student focused and faculty guided. Some unique elements of Canyon View High School are a technology-based library, flexible classroom spaces that encourage collaboration, and the Accelerator, a main focal point of the school which uses technology and mixed-use space to become an incubator for the art of teaching and learning!
